New post

Lauren Tercero

Lauren is one of my students here in Kona. From the moment I met her it was like something just clicked (pun intended). She is super easy to talk to and we have become fast friends.

Usually, photographers are a little gun shy to get in front of the camera, but Lauren was brave and decided to step in front of my camera. I got some of the other students to help so these pics are a collaboration. Sasha styled Lauren, Francisco helped out so much with the flashes, and Sharon was an amazing assistant by focusing on the details and making sure everything looked good. She also had great suggestions. If I could, I would take them all to every photo shoot with me.

In this photo shoot we were just playing around with an off camera flash. I am looking forward to some other fun shoots with my students.

Thanks so much Lauren for posing for me. You are awesome, and I hope you feel like the rock star that you are!

Ways to save… and one of my favs

When I hear the word Save I get so excited! I love to save and find good deals. So I figured I would share a video that gives great advice on saving for your wedding. It’s a little corny but her ideas are great so check it out HERE

Also I want to suggest to brides to get a Pinterest account. I love this website so much. I think it’s still invitation only so if you want me to invite you just post a comment or email me and I’ll send you an invitation. Pinterest is a great site for collection ideas. I use it to get to know my brides and grooms a little better. I like to know what kind of style my clients like. I also like to know what kind of photos make my clients jump for joy or move them in a certain way. So on Pinterest, I categorize different styles of photographs to show my clients and then I get a sense of their style so that we are on the same page on their wedding day.

Here is a little sample of what my Pinterest looks like

For those of you already on Pinterest follow me!

I would have posted these earlier but they were a Christmas present

Jonathan of A Land of aThousand Hills Coffee emailed me just before Christmas wanting to know if I could do some cool portraits of his sons as a Christmas present to his wife. I love shooting portraits so I quickly agreed.

If you live anywhere near Roswell, Walton, or Cumming you have got to check out one of these coffee shops. Not only is their coffee amazing and the atmosphere cozy, but when you buy a cup of coffee you are doing good.

Ok, now on to the boys.

Brian is 9 and he likes baseball. He also is quite a climber and couldn’t wait to show me his skills on some bamboo by the coffee shop.

Josh is 15 and a super cool skater dude.

Johnny is 17 and I loved talking soccer talk with him. I got to see some of his skills and he was quite talented.

I got to go to a really awesome park and we did some fun shots of the guys and their sports.

A blast from the past

I have been photographed all my life since before I was even born! (See me above in the womb) My dad is an amazing photographer (www.garyschapman.com) and I feel so privileged to be called his daughter (I’m a big fan in case you can’ttell.) Although I grew up with a camera always in my face and I had the natural photography talent flowing through my veins (and a lot of humility to go with it) I didn’t know I would choose it as a career.

Actually, I first wanted to be a veterinarian. That dream quickly died when I realized I would be looking into a kitten’s eyes, stick a huge needle in its haunches, and wait for its meows to haunt my dreams. I didn’t want to have any part of that! My dream morphed into being an animal photographer. That idea died even faster when I found out that patience is a key element to the job description. Oh, and I’m also allergic to a lot of furry animals. I needed to find a passion that didn’t include lots of sneezing. I soon found out that the passion I was looking for was telling stories. I’ve always had a really vivid imagination. Growing up, I would see pictures of people in magazine ads or in books and I would create an entire story for them in my head. Call me weird, but it kept me entertained for hours. It was almost as if the people in the pictures were pleading me to tell their stories. I soon fell in love with writing. The stories in my head found a place on paper. Then I began looking around. Everyone has a story. A photographer has that unique ability to capture moments in someone’s life story and make them last forever. That’s when I found it. My true passion was revealed. I’m a story teller. My tools are my camera and the keys on this computer. The images that move me the most are the ones that tell a story.

As a wedding photographer, capturing the moments that tell a story for the bride and groom is my main objective. Just recently, I assisted a good friend, photographer,  Ronnie Owings of Pro Studio for a wedding.

When I was editing my work, I found an image that I really liked. It took me a second to realize why I liked it so much. I figured it out. It’s all in the bride’s eye. Sure, most of her face is covered by her mom’s arm, but the way her eyes are looking at her mom show that she is beaming with happiness. Some may not see anything in this image, but I see a story. It’s a story with a happy ending. It’s a story of a little girl who looks up to her mommy. A mommy that kissed away every boo boo and French-braided that little girl’s hair. In this photo mommy is doing it again. She is helping her little girl on her most important day. And those eyes say it all.
