I've been reading a really good book called The Supernatiral Ways of Royalty. It's a very good book that talks about who we are in Christ. We are His children. It talks about how many of us don't act like His chilren. We beat ourselves down every time we make a mistake. We feel like we should be severly punished so we punish ourselves. We are filled with low self esteem and we feel as if we are worthless. But, God tells us that we are not worthless. Without God we are nothing, but with Him we are everything! We ROCK!!!! Now, I understood this concept but I still couldn't help wondering where pride and humility came into the picture. I think I'm finally starting to understand. We are humble when we do something great and give the glory to God alone. We don't belittle ourselves. We just establish that we are in a partnership with God. He gets the glory. I mean come on... He did create us! Anyway, this morning I was reading in Ezekiel. I read chapter 16 v. 15-18 and it hit me... this is what I read:
15 " 'But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his. 16 You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. Such things should not happen, nor should they ever occur. 17 You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. 18 And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them.
It says,"You trusted in your beauty." That is pride. That is taking it too far. Then in v. 17 it says, "You also took the fine jewlery that I GAVE YOU." That could represent so much. We can take any gift that God has given us and misuse it for ourselves.
God has given us talents. We should be joyful. We should seek them out and try to grow in them. But we have to be careful not to take it too far by using them for our own glory because that is when it becomes pride.
